The
shepherds' responses to the angel's message reveals a spiritual wisdom that
we should desire for ourselves.
The Bible tells us that "when the angels returned to heaven, the shepherds
said to each other, 'Come on, let's go to Bethlehem! Let's see this
wonderful thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about' " [Luke
2:15-20]. What lessons can we learn from these wise shepherds?
First, we need to take the
effort to experience God's blessings before it can become a blessing to us.
The shepherds were willing to travel from their village to Bethlehem to see
the wonderful thing that has happened, which the Lord had told them about.
We need to desire to personally experience God's blessings for our lives. We
need to taste and see that God our loving Heavenly Father is truly good and
loving and powerful. He desires to bless us in Christ Jesus with every
spiritual blessing in the heavenly places. Let's press on to experience
God's blessings for our lives.
Second, we need to tell
others about God's goodness to us all.
The shepherds went to Bethlehem,
found Mary and Joseph, and saw the baby, lying in the manger. The Bible
tells us that "then the shepherds told everyone what had happened and what
the angel had said to them about this child." The Bible tells us that
"the shepherds went back to their fields and flocks, glorifying and praising
God for what the angels had told them, and because they had seen the child,
just as the angel had said" [Luke 2:16-20]. Let's tell others about
God's goodness to all of us. Let's glorify and praise God for all the
blessings that He has promised and will shower upon our lives. Let
everything that has breath praise the Lord!
